About Our Company

Spline Gauges is the World's largest producer of spline gauges and master gears - a position of authority based on absolute specialisation and supreme quality.
We obtained this position by pioneering advanced techniques, applying high technology, and accumulating unique resources of skill.
Our quality assurance policy is simple: total commitment. Spline Gauges has more coordinate measuring machines than all UK competitors combined.
Our inspectors have at their disposal what is, without doubt, the most comprehensive gear and spline testing facility within the gauge making industry of the world. Our inspection is autonomous, totally divorced from manufacturing management.
Setting the Pace
The Spline Gauges Laboratory is the only British Calibration Service Unit in England (The British National Government controlled inspectorate), reporting to the National Physical Laboratory for the calibration and certification of splines and gears. Calibration certificates, also traceable to the United States Bureau of Standards, are supplied for our own products and for other products submitted to us.
We act as independent arbitrators on behalf of authorities and commercial users.
Racing Heritage
Spline Gauges Have been involved in the manufacture of gears for Formula 1 and Indy Car since 1992 with great success. We make not only gearbox gears but also engine gears and shafts, steering gears and other parts with splines on or in.
Hard and Stable
When making masters, which must remain constant for many years, heat treatment is a critical factor, affecting both dimensional stability and surface durability. All our products are heated to high temperatures and then martempered - the gas-free contact between the product surface and the coolant ensuring rapid and uniform quenching.
The cooling process is then sustained to -70 degrees centigrade overnight. This leaves only nominal stresses, which are eliminated by tempering at 150 degrees centigrade for 4 hours.
Double Check
Strict quality control is inherent in every stage of manufacture, and on completion every aspect of material stability and dimensional accuracy is checked again. Before shipping, the individual records of every product are reviewed and certified by highly qualified inspectors.
